About the Kansai Queer Film Festival
The Kansai Queer Film Festival (KQFF) is a Kansai-based annual film festival that shines a spotlight on a wide variety of queer films, which focus on diverse genders, sexualities, and lifestyles. Building on the success of our first event, which was held over two days in 2005 and attracted approximately 1200 visitors, this year we are proud to be hosting the ninth KQFF.
We have made a special effort to select a broad program of films that include both blockbusters and hidden gems, which are not limited to those with gay themes, but feature in addition issues of transgender, bisexuality, intersex and more. We boast the best track record of any festival in Japan for showing films with these themes, and for many of the outstanding films we are presenting, attending our festival is the only way to see them in Japan.
